Jill's Advanced Comedy Workshop Create Online Comedy Show "New to Boom"......

My advanced stand-up comedy workshop group are amazing. I've been through a unique time in our history with them. When lockdown hit we faltered for a bit and then just continued with our comedy classes online. I wanted to take advantage of it being online. I wanted to turn this into an opportunity. So we set about learning everything we needed to know about how to create our own online comedy content. There were a couple of people in the group who knew about filming, editing etc. And it was suddenly incredibly useful that I also have a background as a professional writer creating scripts for film and television.

My comedy club Comic Boom at Komedia Brighton went on line during the first lockdown. The show was part live-streamed and part clips of stand-up comics filmed performing at Comic Boom over the last couple of years. My advanced comedy students got involved! Christian Jegard created great music. Steve Barry dug out footage he'd shot at Comic Boom, which gave us a terrific opening sequence. Obe Arif created some incredible animation.

I also could not have done it without my assistant director and comedy course graduate James Ellis or our fantastic MC double act former Comic Boom MC Paul F Taylor and his partner Rebecca Shorrocks aka award winning double act Short and Curly. Creating "Comic Boom Live!" with a team from Komedia Bath and Komedia Brighton was one hell of a learning curve! And I enjoyed every minute of it!

Comic Boom moved with Komedia Brighton to exceptional open-air pop-up venue The Warren on Brighton beach for the summer, which was amazing. And an unforgettable experience. The Warren closed at the end of September and we had to think about what to do with Comic Boom as it still wasn't possible to put it on at Komedia again yet. A group within my advanced stand-up comedy workshop were creating consistently great online comedy content so I decided to take the "New to Boom" section out of "Comic Boom Live!" and make it a monthly online show in it's own right. And voila! Our short online comedy show "New to Boom" was born. We hope you enjoy watching the first one...
