Once a year I run my "Comic BABY Boom" shows for my Advanced Comedy Workshop on one crazy night in Komedia's intimate Studio Bar. The last time my BABY Boomers performed at Komedia it was in my New Act Night show at the end of my stand-up comedy course. Now they've got their first five minute sets together and they're ready to take their first steps on to the comedy circuit and start doing their first stand-up gigs outside Komedia. It's always a fantastic night!
I invite all our local comedy club promoters along to Comic BABY Boom every year so that they can discover a load of great new stand-up comics to book for their nights in one place at one time. It's a great way to help my advanced comedy class get their first gigs at all the best local comedy nights. It's always a really sociable ocassion too with my comedy course students and graduates mingling with our sold out audiences and grabbing the opportunity to catch-up.
Once they've played all the local comedy clubs and started gigging in London and further afield their next step will be to return to Komedia to try their first short spots at big Comic Boom. I love watching the journey my comedy course graduates go on from starting out in short spots at Comic Boom to ending-up compering and headlining the night. My comedy course graduates Angela Barnes, Seann Walsh and Romesh Ranganathan all trod that path relatively recently.
Angela Barnes is having a great year. She's in her second series as "Newsjack" host, just filmed "Live at the Apollo" and she's fitting regular appearances on Mock the Week into her busy schedule. She'll be back at Komedia soon to MC my Autumn stand-up comedy course "New Act Night" show. I can't wait!
